A great way to spend the day...we (Michele, me & Ryan) carved pumpkins & had a great time. Even my dad carved one! He used a drill! It was hilarious! I'll post his too next. See if you can tell which one is his. :) posted by Di

We made it to the River Boat Depot. Getting Mac in and out of the car was not a big deal. Just used the wheel chair to get him to the car, then he stands up with the walker and slowly rotates until can sit in the front car seat. Just reverse the process on the way back. All done without any major slips.

M/M enjoyed themselves. It was their first public outing together without being at a clinic or being transported by Care Cab. They enjoyed their food. And, we let Mac have two Brandy Alexanders and his desired shrimp.

The simple things.

I think this can now be an option for all. One needs to notify the staff before taking him out of the building and let them know when he returns.

His cognition was great tonight...much better than the disappointing visit to the VA for the motorized wheel chair when he could not recall much at all. So...if he can be like this the day he is examined, he might pass.

Another pic from outing...this time with me (Kevin) in the middle

Mac, Mary and Lady Di on MM's first non-medical related outing :)

We made it to the River Boat Depot. Getting Mac in and out of the car was not a big deal. Just used the wheel chair to get him to the car, then he stands up with the walker and slowly rotates until can sit in the front car seat. Just reverse the process on the way back. Freud 101

Visiting Eric in Grand Forks, ND. Mom and I made the 3.5 hr trek to see the new college house he lives in and to just spend the day visiting. Here we are sitting in what is popular now with college students: The Love Sak. Think of it as a super huge bean bag chair. His is sized to fit 2 people, but you can get them to seat 6! Wow! We had a great day shopping and eating out. Eric is a senior this year and an Electrical Engineering major. I am very proud of him, the "baby" of the family!!

Just gave dad a haircut. He thinks it's too short and wouldn't let me finish the front. I think I did ok & heck it was free. Either way it was fun. :) posted by Di

Mac the mobile music man

Mac is getting back into his music. Today I bought him a small boom box and gave him some instructions. When set he was eager to head out to the rest of the nursing home with his Dixieland music at a loud level to share. We had to figure a way for the boom box to not drop while he used his hands to move the wheel chair. So we found an old Velcro strap from his "stump shrinker" and we secured it to his wheel chair on his lap. He was then off to spread some tunes. Awesome. He had a certain place he wanted to go and sit and play his tunes...hoping, I think, to have other people stop and listen and chat. The old coot has spunk. Best wishes to the rest of the Good Shepherd staff and patients.....he is on a mission :)
