Palen political reality check

I previously commented (on this blog) on my concern that many people
were suffering from Palen madness due to her instant celebrity status.
I was concerned that folks were not taking time to take a serious
reflective look at her capability to possibly end up as president.

Now it is clear that more folks are having real doubts..even within
the republican party. It was only a matter of time before the poor
judgment of McCain was realized.

See story below (which is only one of many emerging similar stories).
The real evidence will become clear when she debates Biden on Thursday.

Obama Update: Minnesota Heartland Change Tour

Join the Heartland Change Tour The Minnesota Heartland Change Tour is now in its final stretch, and the groundswell of support we're feeling across Greater Minnesota has been incredible.

In coffee shops, living rooms, and community centers across the state, folks are coming together to share their stories, help shape the campaign, and start working in their communities. We're talking about the issues and the ideas that will once again reward the hard work and innovation of these towns.

From talking to teachers in Owatonna about investing in education, to discussing energy independence at a cutting-edge biomass facility in Morris, to sharing ideas about developing a modern communications infrastructure in New Ulm, Minnesotans have come out to take ownership of this campaign and their future.

Learn more about the stops we've made, the people we've met, and where we're headed.

We're hearing from Minnesotans from stop to stop and everywhere in between.

Whether it's someone coming up to us in a corner store, or a supporter approaching us in a parking lot, Barack's message of change is resonating with people who are tired of Washington's failed policies and the cynical politics that have left small towns and communities behind.

They're coming out because they know that the only way to bring the change we need to rural America is not from the top down in Washington, but from the bottom up in their own towns and communities.

Find out more about where this tour has been, where it's going, and join us in bringing change to Minnesota:

More scary stuff about Palin

Palin's first chance to speak without being protected by scripted
speech bytes and handlers confirms my suspicions (see link below).
Heck...I know what the Bush doctrine is. She doesn't!!!

Given Mcain's age and the chilling fact that the VP is a heartbeat
away from being president, I am flabbergasted that folks are excited
about this lady being VP.

I like Mcain. I was hoping he would be the Republican nominee instead
of Bush way back. If he had chosen Leiberman as his VP, as he wanted,
I would have given the ticket serious consideration. But...John caved
into the social conservative base. This important decision clearly
makes one wonder about Mcain's "maverick" image. He may have been a
maverick in the past...but he is no more.

Palin as potential president? God help us.

FYI: Women Say No Palin movement

I received the message below as an email from a female friend. I'm posting it here as an FYI. I'm not a woman, but her extreme socially conservative views (some of which are outlined below) also scare me.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PLEASE SEND THIS TO EVERY THINKING WOMAN YOU KNOW!!!

Some of you may have already received this, but if not, please send an email. (And men, please forward to the women you know!)

WE MUST DEFEAT THE MCCAIN/PALIN ticket!

We are writing to you because of the dread we have felt since the announcement of Sarah Palin as the Vice-Presidential candidate for the Republican Party. We believe that this terrible decision has surpassed mere partisanship, and that it is a dangerous farce on the part of a pandering and rudderless Presidential candidate that has a real possibility of becoming fact.

Perhaps like us, as American women, you share the fear of what Ms. Palin and her professed beliefs and proven record could lead to for ourselves and for our present or future daughters. To date, she is against sex education, birth control, the pro-choice platform, environmental protection, alternative energy development, freedom of speech (as mayor she wanted to ban books and attempted to fire the librarian who stood against her), gun control, the separation of church and state, and polar bears. To say nothing of her complete lack of real preparation to become the second-most-powerful person on the planet.

We want to clarify that we are not against Sarah Palin as a woman, a mother, or, for that matter, a parent of a pregnant teenager, but solely as a rash, incompetent, and all together devastating choice for Vice President. Ms. Palin's political views are in every way a slap in the face to the accomplishments that our mothers and grandmothers and great-grandmothers so fiercely fought for, and that we've so demonstrably benefited from.

First and foremost, Ms. Palin does not represent us. She does not demonstrate or uphold our interests as American women. It is presumed that the inclusion of a woman on the Republican ticket could win over women voters. We want to disagree, publicly.

Therefore, we invite you to reply here: mailto:womensaynopalin@gmail.com with a short, succinct message about why you, as a woman living in this country, do not support this candidate as second-in-command for our nation. Please include your name (last initial is fine), age, and place of residence. We will post your responses on a blog called "Women Against Sarah Palin," which we intend to publicize as widely as possible. Please send us your reply at your earliest convenience the greater the volume of responses we receive, the stronger our message will be.

Thank you for your time and action.

Sincerely,

Quinn Latimer and Lyra Kilston

Bursch Travel: "da best" travel agency in central MN

For years I booked my air travel with Karen Klaverkamp at Bursch Travel. Then along came the ease of self-booking via the web....and I never used Karen or Bursch again. However, in preparation for a 2.5 week trip to Australia I recently needed professional help. Although Karen "the best damn travel agent in the world" K. is now in group sales, circumstances resulted in her handeling my reservations. As per usual she was top notch...#1......"da best" (I've now added Bursch to Mobile IQ's "da best" links.

If you have individual travel needs and need an agency, check with one of their branch offices. If you need help booking group reservations and live in the central MN area.....contact Karen...and tell her that "IQ McGrew" sent you. You will not be disappointed.

The Palin double standard?

It is no secret that I've supported Obama well before he made it big
during the primaries. So you know my biases.

As the Palin "celebrity" status starts to wear off it is becomming
clear that she may have some issues about some of the things she has
stated. Time will tell. But...each day, as the Palin onion is peeled,
what is revealed is not exactly what we've been sold. We shall see.

That being said, I find it more than curious that the story at the
following CNN link is not getting more play. Does anybody remember the
nonstop crap Obama received about his pastor and the type of church he
attended. This CNN story should generate similar outrage....if we are
all going to be equals in dirty politics.

Why are people not talking about Palin's religious past with as much
fervor as they did about Obamas? I sense a double standard.

I urge folks to not be blown away by the early orchestrated
introduction of Palin to the public. Pay attention to emerging stories
that appear to reveal a more accurate picture. Someone a heartbeat
away from the presidency requires careful scrutiny.

Let's get over the Palin love fest and see what is reality.

Obama Heartland Change Tour coming to a town near you

Sent from KMcGrew iPhone

Obama for America
Dear Kevin --

Join the Heartland Change Tour Bringing change and accountability back to Washington is going to require listening -- not to the same lobbyists, special interests, and political talking heads, but to the people and families who are struggling under the failed policies of the past eight years.

Starting this Sunday, September 7th, and running through Sunday, September 14th, Barack Obama's Minnesota Campaign for Change will embark on a Heartland Change Tour of Minnesota to do just that.

From Ely to Winona, this listening tour will touch every corner of the state. Regular Minnesotans will have the opportunity to give their input, talk about the issues they're facing day in and day out, and share their ideas about the kind of change they want to see in our country.

Find a stop on our Minnesota Heartland Change Tour and make your voice heard.

Restoring transparency and accountability to Washington is essential to bringing the change our country needs. And that can only be done by listening to real people -- not powerful corporate lobbyists -- and responding to the issues and concerns they face.

We'll be taking questions and holding discussions on all of the issues facing the small towns and communities across Minnesota, including agriculture, farming, rural economic development, and small businesses.

Find out more about our Heartland Change Tour of Minnesota, spread the word, and play a role in bringing the change we need:

Thanks, and see you on the road.
