Lake Bemidji rock shore

A bit of the lake shore on Lake Bemidji. Waves are so soothing

Diane at lake Bemidji

The first game of the tourney is over. We lost 6-5 in a very good
game. Diane and I are now spending time resting by lake Bemidji. The
simple things in life are great.

Bemidji B-ball tourney

Here we are in Bemidji MN at the university field. Waite Park (Dianes
sons team) playing Cold
Spring MN. We are up 3-0 after three.

Lutheran Airlines

WE ARE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE LUTHERAN AIRLINES IS NOW
OPERATING IN MINNYSOTA!

ALSO SERVING VISCONSIN, NORDERN MITCHIGEN, NORT & SOUT DAKOTA

If you are travelin soon, consider Lutran Air, the
no-frills airline.
You're all in da same boat on Lutran Air, here flyin is
a upliftin experience.

Dair is no first class on any Lutran Air flight.

Meals are potluck. Rows 1 tru 6, bring rolls; 7 tru 15,
bring a salad;
16 tru 21, a hot dish, and 22-30, a dessert.

Basses and tenors please sit in da rear of da aircraft.

Everyone is responsible for his or her own baggage.

All fares are by free will offering, and da plane will not
land til da budget is met.

Pay attention to your flight attendant, who vill acquaint
you wit da safety system aboard dis Lutran Air. Okay den, listen up; I'm only gonna say dis vonce:

In da event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, I am
frankly gonna be real surprised and so vill Captain Olson, because ve fly right around two tousand feet, so loss of cabin pressure would probably mean da Second Coming or someting of dat nature, and I wouldn't bodder with doze liddle masks on da rubber tubes--you're gonna have bigger tings to worry about den dat. Just stuff doze back up in dair liddle holes.

Probably da masks fell out because of turbulence which, to be honest wit you, we're gonna have quite a bit of at two tousand feet, sorta like driving across a plowefield, but after a while you get used to it.

In da event of a water landing, I'd say forget it.
Start saying da Lord's Prayer and just hope you get to
da part about forgive us our sins as we forgive dose who sin against us, which some people say 'trespass against us,' which isn't right, but what can you do?

Da use of cell phones on da plane is strictly forbidden,
not because day may confuse da plane's navigation
system, which is by da pants all da way. No, it's
because cell phones are a pain in da wazoo, and if God had meant you to use a cell phone, He wudda put your mout on da side of your head.

We start lunch right about noon and it's buffet style
wit da coffeepot up front.

0we'll have da hymn sing; hymnals are in da seat
pockets in front of you. Don't take yours wit you when
you go or I am gonna be real upset and I am not kiddin!

Right now I'll say Grace:

Come, Lord Jesus, be our guest and let deze gifts to us be blessed. Fader, Son, and Holy Ghost,
May we land in Dulut or pretty close.

Book nook: IQ is reading....

I loved Thomas Moore's "Dark nights of the soul" so I decided to give
his latest book on work amd finding the purpose in your life a spin.
More later.

Book nook: George Will on conservatives and Reagan worship

As noted in a prior post, I'm enjoying the conservative observations and commentaries in George Will's latest book.

Here is a quote that I enjoyed about conservatives and their love for Ronald Regan:

"this winter of their discontent's nostalgia for Ronald Reagan has become for many conservatives a substitute for thinking. This mental paralysis--gratitude decaying into idolatry--is sterile: Neither the man nor his moment will recur. Conservatives should face the fact that Reaganism cannot define conservatism."

Geek stain glass

From NEATORAMA. Stain glass for nerds and geeks representing characters from video games etc. I love it. This is Darth Vadar.

Stained glass art is not just for church anymore! deputydog has a collection of stained glass featuring subjects from videogames, comics, and science. This Darth Vader pane was recreated from a Christmas card drawn by a 6-year-old. Link

I've recently read a number of books on the changing nature of the

becoming one of the 3-4 major power players on the world stage. The
post at the link below is another indication-they now surf the web
more than anyone else.

The paradox of choice

The paradox of choice has been an interesting topic of recent. An
article in SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN suggests that making too many choices
or decisions depletes limited thinking resources (executive functions)
with a subsequent drop off in quality of decisions as you make more.
You can read a brief summary at the blog link below which also
includes a link to the lengthier SA article.

Migraines explained

Thanks to MIND HACKS for providing a brief summary to the Scientific
American article that has been making the blogosphere rounds re: new
insights into the causes of migraines.

I used to suffer 10-12 of these a year and now am almost migraine
free. The article made sense to me as I used to explain my migraines
as being a major electrical storm in my head, that when done, gave me
a sense of calm...as if someone had hit a brain reset button and
shocked all my neurons back to a clean starting state.

Mowercycle

Yet another great gadget at NEATORAMA.

This MowerCycle was created by some DIY-genius out of an old bicycle and a broken lawnmower, we're saying "DIY-genius" because his identity remains unknown - and this cannot be found at online do-it-yourself stores or something. Of course the efficiency of this is questioned since we assume riding a bike on grass isn't the easiest thing to do, but the concept is brilliant!

Book nook: IQ is reading...

Another book on politics, this time from conservative columnist George
Will. I like his mind and writing style and he is not an conservative
extremist like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity or Ann Coulter. This guy is
a conservative intellectual who has great insights on American history
and culture. I like the fact that each story only covers two or three
pages and are self-contained units. It makes it an easy book to pick
up at any time. I would recommend.
